A feature of the Ukraine exhibition 'Ukraine Fragments' is a stunning series of artwork created by Auckland schoolteacher, Jan Ubels — his emotional response to the images taken by world media showing the impact of the Russian attacks on Ukraine on 25 February and since.

Jan's laser-cut etchings on jagged, burnt-looking pieces of damaged plywood, reflect the distress of the Ukrainian people, and the destruction all around them.

His human figures, many burdened with bundles that are likely to hold all that they have left, could be any of us. Look closer to see the amazing level of detail to be seen in some of these unique pieces of art.
